ergonomic, efficient and effective at moving snow
The version of the product that I am reviewing has a plastic head/scoop/blade, with a metal edge along the mouth of the scoop, matching the photo of the product shown on the Amazon product page. This product saw its debut on 12-27-10 when my driveway/sidewalk (in NJ) and most of the northeast... -
Love the design, not sure about the wear strip
I just bought one and used it on my driveway and sidewalk tonight. Overall, I was very impressed with the design. I "pushed" most of the snow and lifted very little of it. Compared to other shovels I used, I love this one. My back is thanking me. Like the other reviewers, I also found that it...

The snow particles entrained in the wake of the snowplow (i.e. snow cloud) and the subsequent snow accumulation on the warning lights appear as the most pronounced visibility problems behind the snowplow truck. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods are employed with detailed 2D and 3D models of the snowplow trucks (1) to evaluate the performance of the add-on devices (airfoils) available in the market which improve the rear visibility of truck by the public; (2) to gain more insight over the snow cloud pattern. Considering the low density of snow particles and high drag coefficient, they are assumed to follow air flow and their effect on the flow pattern is neglected. The effect of airfoil on the snow accumulation behind the truck is quantified by pressure and shear stress distribution. The airfoil selected based on the numerical studies is implemented on the back of the truck and tested in the field. The results confirmed the rear visibility performance increase by the airfoil over...

Boss Snowplow to be featured on "World's Greatest" : News ...
IRON MOUNTAIN -- For the last 24 years, Boss Snowplow in Iron Mountain has become one of the top snowplow manufacturers in the world. Now they are being recognized for it.
Boss will be featured in an upcoming episode of the "World's Greatest," a distinction the company takes pride in.
"We believe that we've got the best product out there,” said Boss Executive Vice President Dave Brule II. “We tell our customers we think it's the best product. It's nice to get some third party validation that it is the best product. I think most of our customers believe in it."
Boss officials were interviewed and graded based on product, customer service, and customer satisfaction.
After being selected, Boss gave the show's camera crew and Upper Michigan’s Source a behind-the-scenes look at how it all happens.
"We process tens of thousands of pounds of steel a day here all year long, and we've got to make sure everybody's safe, so it takes a lot of coordination,” said Boss Marketing Manager Mark Klossner. “Then at the end of the day, you're happy that you got a great looking snippet on film."
Boss also is one of the largest employers in Dickinson County with about 200 people working at the Iron Mountain factory.
Tens of thousands of snowplows are completed at Boss every year, and while having the distinction as the world’s greatest is important for the company, it also says a lot about the community.
"When people see the finished product from the “World's Greatest” television show, they'll see that story starts with the work ethic of U.P. people,” Klossner said. “That's really where this whole success story begins."
Boss' feature on "World's Greatest" will run in November on the Ion Network.
SnowCare for Troops program
IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. - A new national volunteer program supporting military families, Project EverGreen's SnowCare for Troops, provides community members with a meaningful way to give back to those serving our country.
The national program is underwritten by THE BOSS Snowplow and brings together snowplow volunteers to provide free snow removal services for military families with a spouse or family member serving overseas in the armed forces.
"For our military families with loved ones serving away from home, help on the home front reduces stress and eases the burden shouldered by those left behind," explains Project EverGreen Executive Director Den Gardner. "We would like to express our appreciation to THE BOSS Snowplow for putting military families first through this community-based volunteer program. This program is a natural extension of our nationally-known GreenCare for Troops program, where free service is provided to military families in need of lawn and landscape services. Many of our volunteers in SnowCare for Troops also participate in GreenCare for Troops."
Following last year's harsh winter and record-breaking snowfalls, this grassroots initiative kicks off just in time for the winter snow season.
Honoring our troops is easy and volunteers can sign up for the program by visiting http://www.projectevergreen.com/scft or http://www.bossplow.com/snowcarefortroops. Hundreds of local volunteers have already signed up for the Project Evergreen SnowCare for Troops program and many more volunteers are needed.
"THE BOSS Snowplow is proud to offer our support to America's military families who are making the ultimate sacrifice," said Mark Klossner, marketing manager for THE BOSS Snowplow. "Anyone can get involved in this program, and more help is needed as we prepare for this winter's first snowfalls. We're so appreciative of the tremendous support this program is already generating in local communities and know that those who participate will get back so much more in return for their volunteer service."
