Arcadia boy wins essay contest La Crosse Tribune
A learner at Holy Family Eclectic School in Arcadia is the statewide victor of the Agriculture in the Classroom's piece contest.
Greg Whalen, 11, son of Kevin and Marilyn Whalen, was in the fourth categorize when he wrote the essay about skid steers and how the faction is used to get manure out of the barn and plow snow on his kinsfolk's Trempea-leau County cultivate.
"I wrote about who invented them and what they did to earn it work," Greg said.
"I knew mostly about them because I material on a farm and we have one," he said. "I didn't remember the history, but I looked it up on the Internet."
The undertake contest, sponsored by the Wis-consin Tap Marketing Board/Wisconsin Dairy Consistory, We Energies and the Wisconsin Holding Bureau Federation, drew 1,333 entries from Wisconsin students who wrote about "The Machines that Frame Wisconsin Agriculture Toil."
To earn the state cognizance, certificate, prizes, instructive resources for his teacher and a classroom award, Greg also won county-off the mark and district contests. He academic of the opportunity through a 4-H newsletter.
