Kansas City Public Works spent Thursday working to get is crews in place to treat arterial, primary and residential streets. Kansas City crews, like their counterparts in Overland Park, are working 12-hour shifts "in order to provide around-the-clock coverage on primary and arterial roads."

Because the area is expected to receive two inches or less of snow, crews don't anticipate residential roads will receive much plowing.

"Should the storm track shift and result in significant snowfall, crews will be instructed to report for duty," Kansas City spokesman Dennis Gagnon said in a news release.

However, the Missouri Department of Transportation waited to treat roads.

"Rain appears likely to precede the snow and rain will wash away any salt or brine," MODOT spokesman Stephen Porter said Wednesday afternoon. "Also, the rapid temperature drop and wind will likely send temperatures low enough to threaten re-freezing between the pavement and fresh snow, which would create a greater hazard. Our crews will be coming in at 7 p.m. and working through the night, plowing or treating when the time is right and doing their work as quickly as possible."

I think the only slight drawback would be starting the plowing. If you end up on top of the snow you will end up having to get down to the surface you want to plow. And, I don't think that is much of a drawback at all. You have so much more contact area with the tracks that you should be able to push just about anything but ridiculous 3-4' deep storms.
