Must have for snow!
I finally got a Snow Brum after living in the northeast my whole life. I can't believe I've wasted so much time with a regualr snow brush. And this is a required tool if you have an SUV and hate having 50 pounds of snow slide down your wind shield when ever you hit the brakes. You can clean... -
Great Product
I bought my first one a number of years ago at a chain store and was skeptical but then after using it to push off huge amounts of snow with one sweep I was hooked. The telescoping handle is nice and reaches high over the car. Lots of heavy snow can be removed in a few minutes unlike a snow...

I'm looking at a couple of welders for home/farm use and I am unsure which type and model is appropriate. I would like some advice which type is best for my needs.
A 220 welder with higher amperage is what you need for thicker steel with a wire feed (MIG) welder.
If you can't afford that then get a stick welder up to 250 amp.

Just wondering if anyone has any input... we're moving soon to a small hobby farm, where we'll be keeping a couple of horses. I've started research what sort of tractor will best suit my needs.
You are right about your friend not getting the difference. Your tractor should move snow just fine. You will need a snow blade with power angle or you will be trying to pull frozen bolts to change the angle - a real pain.

Quick-change angle adjustment from straight ahead to 30 degrees left or right
No tools required; skid shoes and scraper blade are easily replaceable

RIDING THE STORM OUT | More snow stories from this week's big snowfall
Assistant Island County Engineer Connie Bowers said county road crews were working 24 hours each day this week, sanding and plowing as needed. At least four plows or sanders were at work in each of the county’s road shops; there are three on Whidbey Island, and one on Camano Island.
Primary routes — roads used by main traffic and commuters — got the most immediate attention.
The county got ready early for the storm, and activated its Emergency Operations Center on Sunday.
There wasn’t one single area that got hit the worst, Bowers said.
“The first day, I think Oak Harbor got the most. The next day, Bayview.”
“It’s evened out at this point,” she said late Thursday.
As far as winter storms go, this one was bad, but not exceptionally so.
“It’s a significant weather event. It’s not the worst weather event we’ve had,” she said.
Even so, Bowers said Island County commissioners are expected to declare a “state of emergency” because of the storm Monday.
Todays Snow Plow News by Edgeolite: How make an ATV snowplow
Use an empty 55 gallon drum, you need to take marker and layout on the drum the size you are going to make you atv snow plow the cut it out it using the cutting torch, plasma cutter. Usually, you’ll have to cut it on half, lengthwise. But some cut only a small portion of the drum enough for it to plow the snow. After cutting, you should grind to smooth out the drum’s edges. Look to see how the universal snow plow mounts will be attached to the ATV. The snow plow blade needs to have a bracket so that the mount can be attached to it. You need to fabricate a bracket for the atv snow plow blade. The bracket should be perfectly attached to the mount. Normally, the bracket will be attached to the blade’s center. Do some measurements to determine where the bracket should be located and what size this should be. You can make brackets, by Using the left over steel for brackets. Bend it to the desired shape using the cutting torch. Most of the time brackets are usually triangular in shape. Check if the bracket is already enough for the mount. If it’s not, do some adjustments until you achieve the perfect-shaped bracket. Spot weld the bracket at first to see the location before a final weld. Attach the bracket to the perfect spot on the blade using welding equipment. Don’t forget to wear protective Lay out and drill the proper holes on the ATV and the universal mount so it will perfectly fit to the vehicle. Attach the snow plow blade bracket to the universal mount and attach the atv plow . Now you are almost done, smooth out the finishes and apply primer and then exterior metal paint for a professional look. Like I said to make it easier on your self buy just the blade or just the mounts, if it makes it easier on you to complete the task of building your atv snowplow we also offer just the atv parts you need here at edgeolite.com.
UPDATE: Southern Wisconsin Deals With First Major Snowfall Of Season
Snow Emergency to be Declared for tonight, Saturday, December 4th and for Sunday night, December 5th.
About 3" of snow has fallen in Madison during the overnight hours and about another inch is expected before it ends around noon today.
30 salt crews and 2 additional sanding crews have been out since the snow began falling last evening around 9:00 pm. Currently the main streets or salt routes have had salt applied and plows have been continuously plowing and replowing those streets during the overnight hours. This will continue throughout the morning. The main streets are all passable but they are still snow covered and slippery.
The City of Madison will be plowing all residential streets today beginning at noon, when the snow is forecasted to come to an end or at least the accumulating portion of the snow will end. At that time, we will deploy approximately 175 pieces of equipment to plow the 1708 lane miles of streets in the City. We are hoping that the plowing will be completed by 10:00 pm this evening.
This is a relatively dry snow and with only a little over 3" on the ground. Shoveling and plowing of this snow will be much easier than if the snow was heavy and wet. Traffic should be able to move about the City as well throughout the day as long as caution is taken and extra time is allotted.
The City will be declaring a Snow Emergency for both tonight, Saturday night, December 4th and for Sunday night, December 5th. That means that all people should try to find off street parking or at a minimum abide by the alternate side parking rules. Since it will become December 5th during the overnight hours, people should park on the odd side of the street tonight and park on the even side of the street on Sunday night. Remember, don't let the snow lead to a ticket or a tow.
