Effective use of driving simulators requires considerable technical and methodological skill along with considerable background knowledge. Acquiring the requisite knowledge and skills can be extraordinarily time consuming, yet there has been no single convenient and comprehensive source of information on the driving simulation research being conducted around the world. A how-to-do-it resource for researchers and professionals, Handbook of Driving Simulation for Engineering, Medicine, and Psychologybrings together discussions of technical issues in driving simulation with broad areas in which driving simulation is now playing a role. The chapters explore technical considerations, methodological issues, special and impaired populations, evaluation of in-vehicle and nomadic devices, and infrastructure evaluations. It examines hardware and software selection, visual database and scenario development, independent subject variables and dependent vehicle, environmental, and psychological variables,...

More snow moving in tonight
A period of calm today will precede the next shot of snow that's expected to hit the region tonight.
"During the day today, here in the Buffalo area actually looks pretty nice," Dan Kelly, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo, said this morning.
Clouds will diminish toward the afternoon, before returning this evening.
"Nothing in the way of precipitation today," Kelly added.
That'll change tonight, when a general snowfall moves in. Overnight, between 4 and 5 inches of snow is expected in the Southern Tier, 3 to 4 in southern Erie and Wyoming counties, and 2 to 3 in the metro area.
Temperatures will reach around 20 degrees today and stay there, then rise into the mid-20s on Saturday, Kelly said.
Travel conditions for this morning's commute were a stark contrast to Thursday afternoon's short-lived burst of snow, which made for one of the toughest rush hours of this winter season.
About three to four inches of snow quickly fell across most of Western New York in a heavy flurry during the late afternoon Thursday, with even a few flashes of thunder and lightning sprinkled in, before the snow barreled eastward, leaving a cold, tranquil evening behind.
