Must have for snow!
I finally got a Snow Brum after living in the northeast my whole life. I can't believe I've wasted so much time with a regualr snow brush. And this is a required tool if you have an SUV and hate having 50 pounds of snow slide down your wind shield when ever you hit the brakes. You can clean... -
Great Product
I bought my first one a number of years ago at a chain store and was skeptical but then after using it to push off huge amounts of snow with one sweep I was hooked. The telescoping handle is nice and reaches high over the car. Lots of heavy snow can be removed in a few minutes unlike a snow...

I live in a sub-division which recently refinished driveways. During the snow removal season the driveways were badly 'scraped' and damaged. Is this common? What caused this? Is this the fault of the operator?
I drove a snow plow for Cal-trans for a couple of years so I know that the plow "floats" on the surface. Therefore, any bumps or imperfections will be hit and scraped. Plows tear up concrete, asphalt or whatever they are on.

Quake efforts blamed for rise in snow mishaps in Japan
This winter's heavier snowfall in Japan has seen more than 500 people across seven prefectures die or be injured in snow-related accidents, including cases in which they had been trying to remove snow, it has been learned.
People are trying to remove snow themselves using shovels and other tools because of delays in municipal-led snow removal. The delays have been caused by a shortage of dump trucks - many of which are being used in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake for reconstruction work - to transport snow.
According to data compiled by the Akita, Aomori, Ishikawa, Nagano, Niigata, Toyama and Yamagata prefectural governments, the death toll from such snow-related accidents had reached 31 as of Wednesday, while 479 people had sustained injuries. In Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, 10 workers fell at a construction site while clearing snow on Thursday, six of them sustaining injuries.
In Goshogawara City, Aomori Prefecture, a 61-year-old man fell and died on Jan. 19 after falling while trying to clear snow from his roof the previous day. According to the Aomori prefectural government, all nine people who died in the prefecture were aged 60 or older, and removing snow alone at the time of their accidents.
Clout St: Chicago gearing up for snow removal
At 12:55 p.m.
Mayor Richard Daley might not be running for re-election, but he says that'll have no bearing on how his administration prepares for snow removal this winter.
The city will continue with efforts to hold down the overtime paid to snow plow drivers, and to use sensors on trucks and red light cameras to better control how much salt trucks are dumping on the streets during snowfalls, Daley told reporters today at his annual news conference to mark the beginning of city overnight winter parking restrictions.
"One time, they used to dump salt on the street, as much as they wanted," Daley said at the city's 911 center, where he was joined by several department heads. "Now, we have a system to find out how much salt they're putting down."Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Thomas Byrne said long-range forecasts call for above-normal winter temperatures in the area, leading to "heavy and wet snow" in Chicago.
Byrne pointed to the storm that dumped more than nine inches of snow on Minneapolis two weeks ago. "I presume that will be the same outlook that we're looking for here," Byrne said. Beginning at 3 a.m. Wednesday, winter parking restrictions take effect on 107 miles of Chicago streets the city has identified as critical arteries that must be quickly cleared when it snows. Cars parked on these streets between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. until April 1 can be ticketed and towed.
Snow is always a big topic in Chicago and holds a well-known place in the city's political history. Michael Bilandic, who succeeded Richard J. Daley as mayor, lost an election in 1979 after botching a big snowfall.
About Clout Clout has a special meaning in Chicago, where it can be a noun, a verb or an adjective. This exercise of political influence in a uniquely Chicago style was chronicled in the Tribune cartoon "Clout Street" in the early 1980s. Having previously lived in the East Coast for 17 years, I am shocked that a minor snowfall of one inch in the Seattle area could shut down a major metropolitan area.
These levels of snow are commonplace in the Northeast. They never cause a problem and everyone can get up in the morning and get to work. The idea of Interstate closures, abandoned buses and cars or people arriving home from work at 3 a.m. is unheard of.
To operate in the real world it is necessary to make connections between things. In Washington State people are failing to make connections between snow removal and an income tax. On the newscasts I hear people complaining about the lack of snow removal, but these people seem to think that the money for such services magically appears out of nowhere.
In my former state, New Jersey, the voters rant and rave about taxes, but in the end they pay their $2,000-3,000 and whenever there is snow, the roads are plowed and people can get to their jobs or their doctors offices and can keep their personal family and entertainment plans.
Businesses realize that they do not wish to lose unnecessary days of work from their employees. Retail operations realize that they don’t want to lose sales or merchandise shipments.
With an income tax, the government can hire crews that work on weeding and road maintenance during the warm weather and snow removal during the cold weather. Trucks with plows can be purchased so that the major highways are never brought to a halt. This creates jobs and provides an economic stimulus because it reduced unemployment and because the workers will buy automobiles and other items.
There is a point at which people have to come together and share their wealth for the common good. In this paradigm the affluent realize that losses will be prevented if they pay the true cost of loss prevention.
I hope that voters will reconsider any ideological opposition to income taxes and weigh the advantage of paying a relatively minor amount of tax in comparison to the cost of highway closures, the removal of abandoned cars and buses, traffic accident emergency services and the shutdown of an entire metropolitan area due to an inch of snow.
