Winter storm arrives
There’s a 90-percent chance that snow will rapidly accumulate tonight when things start to cool down, according to the National Weather Service at North Platte.
By 3 p.m. a Paxton resident reported 10 inches of snow on the ground.
Snow began around dawn in North Platte, after a light rain fell during the night.
The low-30 degree weather is creating slush, but North Platte Public Service Director Wes Meyer says it will likely become more solid tonight when the temperature drops. The forecast low is 26 degrees.
A city sand/salt truck has been trolling North Platte streets all day and two more trucks will go on duty at 6 p.m., Meyer said.
More snowplows will be deployed if the snow gets deeper than six inches, he said.
The forecast is for another 3-5 more inches of snow overnight. Odds are 60-percent that snow will continue throughout tomorrow, the weather service said.

How about an alternative question: are the people who bitch and moan about how poor a job Spokane does removing snow willing to pay the increased taxes it would take in order to make snow removal faster and more efficient?
People are intolerably inpatient these days. Do you know how many street miles there are in the city of Spokane? Do you understand the logistics of snow removal?
One of the problems nowadays is that no one seems willing to just say “Forget it, it's a snow day, we'll stay home.” It use to be the case that when a big storm hit, people didn't go to work and kids didn't go to school, unless the parents were involved in essential services. It was just a part of life, and you dealt with it. You stayed home, you had canned goods to eat, and you enjoyed the time.

Spokane is the second biggest city in the state of Washington. Do *you* want to be put in charge of snow removal? Give them a break… the snowfall was heavy, and they've got wacko idiots hassling them every step of the way. What a thankless job…
Moscow does a good job of snow removal, but we're a small town. That said, we didn't have a snowplow on my street until yesterday. But I don't live on an arterial, and it would have been stupid for them to have cleared my street before other streets. It's called WINTER, and I DEAL WITH IT. If you can't deal with, for god's sake, move to Arizona.
