Must have for snow!

I bought my first one a number of years ago at a chain store and was skeptical but then after using it to push off huge amounts of snow with one sweep I was hooked. The telescoping handle is nice and reaches high over the car. Lots of heavy snow can be removed in a few minutes unlike a snow...

SHOREVIEW — The city's public works department may make its annual snowplowing work seem effortless, but there's a lot of strategy involved in keeping local roads safe in the winter. Public Works leaders Mark Maloney and Dan Curley gave a behind-the-scenes look in this recent Q and A interview.
Q: What is your annual snowplowing budget? What happens if you go through that in the first couple months?
A: We're expecting to spend approximately $360,000 this year for regular staff time and overtime, materials, fuel, and vehicle and equipment maintenance. Because of the long-term emphasis in Shoreview's financial planning and budgeting, there's enough flexibility to handle the variances created by things like weather.
Q: How do you juggle staffing with trying to predict big snowfalls? Is anyone on call 24-7? How many staffers work on snow removal?
A: At least one maintenance supervisor is available 24/7, 365 days a year. They watch the weather closely throughout the year. At least one checks and verifies actual conditions in the city prior to calling out the snow removal/ice control crews.

I have a 200 yard long gravel driveway and I would like to get a plow for my CJ7 for the winter. I do not have a winch, but I have long been wanting to get one. Obviously I can't do both unless I have a winch-driven plow, or else switch equipment every season. Any recommendations on brand of winch and plow? I don't want to spend TOO much money, but I realize a good winch will cost me.
Calgary City News Blog: Snow and Ice Removed from Residential Streets
An i nterim Snow and Ice Control policy was put in place last winter to guide City crews. A policy is necessary to make a clear statement of the intent of The City of Calgary winter maintenance operations. It establishes the priorities, standards and service levels of the snow and ice control program and was subject to review and approval of City Council. In accordance with this policy, City crews will only plow snow, not completely remove snow from roads, unless Calgary experiences extreme weather like we did last winter. Snow plowing differs from snow removal. Removing snow from all city streets is incredibly costly, and not a realistic option in the context of our current budget. Snow plowing may result in windrows on one or both sides of the road. The clearing of windrows left by City equipment at intersections, lane entrances and bus stops will be the responsibility of the City and will be cleared as soon as is practical. On residential roads, the current interim policy states that: The clearing of windrows in front of driveways left by snow plowing equipment shall be the responsibility of the abutting property owner. If snow plowing equipment is used, attempts will be made to keep driveways clear, but any spillage shall be the responsibility of the abutting property owner. The Roads Maintenance Manager will have the discretion to assess complaints, regarding windrows left due to plowing operations. If assessed as being greater than 30 centimetres in height, the Roads Maintenance Manager or Designate has the authority to direct the removal of the windrow with City crews. Otherwise, such windrows left by snow plowing equipment shall be the responsibility of the abutting property owner to clear.
