There is no other way to plow. Just like city and county plows, they are there to clear the main roads. You are responsible for your driveway and sidewalks.

Elgin’s snow removal operations this winter will be more efficient and more cost effective, officials say.
The Public Works Department has reconfigured snow removal routes and also is making its own salt brine for de-icing.
Residential snow removal routes are being reduced to 16 from 19, due in part to staffing reductions. Public Services Director Dave Lawry told city councilmen Wednesday the routes were changed to give drivers the ability to clear snow in the same amount of time as they previously did.
“We don’t expect any reduction in service as a result of this right now,” Lawry said.
The city aims to plow all of the streets in its jurisdiction within six hours after receiving four inches of snow or less, within 12 hours after a storm of four to eight inches and within 24 hours after being hit by eight inches or more.
“If you can remove your car from the street, do so because it helps become that much more effective,” Lawry said.
Parking is prohibited on snow emergency routes for 24 hours after two or more inches of snow. In addition, the Gifford/Summit Park neighborhood and part of the Southwest Area Neighborhood are under odd/even parking restrictions between the hours of 2 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. During these times, cars parked on the street must be in front of odd-numbered addresses on odd-numbered days and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days.
The city also has tweaked its ice control operations. It will be making its own brine, which gets mixed with beet juice and calcium chloride to help with de-icing the roads.
“Pre-wetting the salt activates the salt and make the salt more effective,” Lawry said.
The set-up for the salt brine production cost about $50,000, but Lawry estimates the city will save about $75,000 a year based on what it had been paying to buy the brine pre-mixed. He said it will only take about a week to make the 40,000 gallons the city typically uses in a year.
