  1. Must have for snow!
I finally got a Snow Brum after living in the northeast my whole life. I can't believe I've wasted so much time with a regualr snow brush. And this is a required tool if you have an SUV and hate having 50 pounds of snow slide down your wind shield when ever you hit the brakes. You can clean...
  2. Great Product
I bought my first one a number of years ago at a chain store and was skeptical but then after using it to push off huge amounts of snow with one sweep I was hooked. The telescoping handle is nice and reaches high over the car. Lots of heavy snow can be removed in a few minutes unlike a snow...

The snow particles entrained in the wake of the snowplow (i.e. snow cloud) and the subsequent snow accumulation on the warning lights appear as the most pronounced visibility problems behind the snowplow truck. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods are employed with detailed 2D and 3D models of the snowplow trucks (1) to evaluate the performance of the add-on devices (airfoils) available in the market which improve the rear visibility of truck by the public; (2) to gain more insight over the snow cloud pattern. Considering the low density of snow particles and high drag coefficient, they are assumed to follow air flow and their effect on the flow pattern is neglected. The effect of airfoil on the snow accumulation behind the truck is quantified by pressure and shear stress distribution. The airfoil selected based on the numerical studies is implemented on the back of the truck and tested in the field. The results confirmed the rear visibility performance increase by the airfoil over...

And reminds drivers that they should abstain from venturing out onto the road after snowfall.

"It's hard to get places clean with [other drivers] on the roads," Scott said. "They don't realize that in a truck, you don't have as good a view from your mirrors, so you have to watch out for people walking behind you and trying to drive around you."

But above all, Scott said that he enjoys his job and plans to continue his work in snow removal after graduating from SRU.

"I really like being able to make my own hours," he said. "It's nice that I can just go out on my own whenever we get snow; I don't have a set lunch schedule or a certain time that I have to do anything. And I like being out in the middle of the night on my own when no one else is out – it's just me, my truck and my radio. It's peaceful in a way."

Upon graduating from college, some students are hired in the line of work fitting for their degree. Others continue on to graduate school and beyond, or may find employment in different fields.

The ins and outs of city snowplowing | The Dickinson Press ...

With snowplow season underway, Dickinson officials will once again mull over use of a snowplow tool to reduce driveway accumulation at a City Commission meeting beginning at 5:15 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

City Public Information Officer Bill Fahlsing said once there are about four inches of snow, when snowfall ceases the plowing begins.

The most common complaint the city receives about snow removal is regarding driveways, he said.

City Engineer Shawn Soehren said the department has done its research on the viability of snow gates — a snowplow attachment that can reduce driveway accumulation when plows go by — and said street departments in several communities claim the tool is high maintenance with several accompanying issues.

Soehren said if snow is too heavy and too deep, the snow gates are not functional.

“They definitely create a slower operation as a whole,” Soehren said. “Bismarck for example when we talked with them, when they went to the snow gates, it slowed their process 30 to 50 percent slower. They actually added eight additional full-time employees and four additional pieces of equipment to accommodate the use of snow gates.”

Jack Sjol, Williston’s public works maintenance superintendent, said the city has used a similar device for 20 years and “they’re well worth whatever they cost.”

“Dickinson needs to get snow gates,” Sjol said. “They make a big difference for people. When the operators get used to using them, they’re a good device.”

During a “snow emergency,” Dickinson crews concentrate efforts on snow emergency routes and remove snow based on a level system.

Level one areas include main roads such as State Avenue, west Villard Street, South Main and Third Avenue West and receive the highest priority, according to a city press release.

The Street Department strives to make streets in level one passable within six hours of the time snowfall stops, level two routes passable within 10 hours, downtown areas within 24 hours, and the remainder of the city within 48 hours after snowfall ceases, according to the press release.

ATV Snow Plowing | ATV Camping Blog

ATV Snow Plowing is a great way to clear a driveway of the cold, white slippery stuff. It is also a great way to justify the purchase of an ATV to your spouse. Done right, ATV snow plowing can save a lot of back-breaking, tedious snow shoveling.

I have a fairly long driveway and before I had the ATV Plow it took several hours to shovel and I was toast for the rest of the day. Now with my ATV I am done in about 30 – 45 minutes. Then I am off to the neighbors and I plow their driveway. Then I plow the road, it’s not work, it’s fun!

To plow snow properly you need a good utility 4×4 ATV preferably 500cc or larger with good tires or tire chains. Then you will need the ATV plow system which usually consists of a plow blade, push tubes, plow mount (specific to your ATV), and a lifting mechanism.

The lifting mechanism can be an ATV winch, an electric or hydraulic cylinder or a manual lifting mechanism. Due to its versatility an ATV winch is the most popular lifting mechanism. Once the plow mount has been installed on your ATV, connecting and disconnecting the push tubes and plow blade take only a few minutes.

Most push tubes allow for multiple blade angles and pitch adjustments. Once you have your ATV plow system completely installed you are ready to start moving snow. I have put together some tips to help you make the most of your ATV plow when clearing a driveway:

Before you start plowing ensure the plow is installed correctly and the all mounting hardware is tight. Start by clearing the area in front of the garage door. This technique is called Backdragging. Position the angle of the blade to the straight position (no angle). Raise the blade and drive forward to the garage door. Lower the blade, then back up while pulling the snow away from the house. You should backdrag only two or three ATV lengths. Repeat this operation for the length...
