Not so hot
A snow pusher that works is a great idea. Unfortunately, this one snapped off at the handle on its second run. The problem, according to the manufacturer, was that the plastic shafts get brittle in the cold. Since it's most likely to be cold when shoveling or pushing snow is required, I'd call... -
Not very durable but great customer support
This snow plow worked great for a 1 inch snowfall. On my second use of the plow, there was more snow (about 5 inches) and the plastic snow blade cracked when I turned the blade when it was loaded with snow. If the plastic parts on this snow plow were replaced with metal (blade and shafts), I...

I just moved to Vermont this past winter and when the plow came it broke some of my flower bed by the road. It is very large and goes right along the road. Well when the plow comes it scoops up all the snow on the road and pushes it into my bed.
mmmmmmm,perhaps.
Allot of the municipalities are now using Mag-chloride and yes it can be happening.A call to your municipal office may shed some light.

seed flowers are often even more delicate, if this seems to be a problem area, which it sounds like it is since it takes a lot of winter abuse, i'd try really really hardy plants.

Plowing starts, hope to clear Madison streets before cold moves in
Update: City of Madison plows will begin working on residential streets at noon Monday to get the streets as clear as possible from the freezing rain and snow mix, before temperatures drop significantly Monday evening.
Madison Streets Division interim superintendent Chris Kelley said if the streets were not plowed, ice ruts could form with the cold weather moving in.
Kelley said private contractors won't be called in, but most city trucks with plows will be in neighborhoods, hoping to finish up by midnight.
Plow trucks will also be applying sand to curves, hills and intersections on residential streets.
Update: Dozens of school districts will start class two hours late Monday morning because of the difficulty of school buses driving on slick roads.
Over three dozen districts, mostly west and north of Dane County, are listed on the NBC15.com school closing website as opening late. The list can be found here www.nbc15.com/schools .
Why Buy Snow Tires?
Do you live in the “Snow Belt,” that part of the U.S. where a few inches of overnight white stuff is considered a light snowfall? Then it’s time to buy your snow tires . What’s that? You don’t use snow tires? Then let’s bone up on why these specialized tires should find a place on the wheels of your vehicle.
Who Needs Snow Tires? You
Perhaps you drive a vehicle that has all-wheel-drive and consequently you assume that you don’t need snow tires? Or maybe the all-season tires that came on your front-wheel-drive sedan have always served you well? Think that the stability control of your rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan will keep you out of trouble? You might want to rethink your position after hearing my argument for snow tires.
The bottom line is that anyone who routinely drives in snowy, icy winter weather can benefit from snow tires. Modern winter tires are totally different animals from the summer tires or all-season tires fitted to most cars when they come from the factory. Simply put, they are designed for winter conditions, without all the compromises that get made in designing an all-season tire. But what does this mean?
Special Rubber And A Different Design
Typically, winter tires are made of a rubber compound that does not lose its flexibility below 32 degrees. This is important because the rubber compound in a winter tire must be able to move and flex in order for the special tread design to effectively clear the road surface of snow, ice, water, and slush, as well as bite through that muck to gain traction.
This sort of rubber compound is only found in winter and all season tires. It is not found in summer tires, which is why they’re not for use in temperatures under about 40 degrees.
The tread design of snow tires is also different. This makes them much more desirable because they can self clean, channeling water out from under the tire’s footprint, while also biting into ice for better traction. This is accomplished by designing the tread pattern to move as the tire rolls down the roadway. The special rubber compound allows for this flexing, while an ingenious design element called “siping” is utilized on snow treads.
...MnDOT reminds public not to push snow onto roads
WILLMAR, MN—The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds the public that it is unlawful to deposit snow on or next to a public highway or street.
Minnesota law and many local ordinances prohibit the plowing, blowing, shoveling or otherwise placing of snow onto public roads. This includes the ditch and right of way area along roads.
Violations are considered misdemeanors, but civil penalties also apply if the placement of snow creates a hazard, such as a slippery area, frozen rut or bump, that contributes to a motor vehicle or pedestrian crash. The civil liability can extend to both the property owner and the person who placed the snow.
Improperly placing snow on or near a public road creates hazards including drainage problems, drifting, sight obstructions and unsafe access. Special attention should be made to keep crosswalks, intersections, entrances and exits clean and unobstructed.
MnDOT maintenance crews plow and maintain about 135,000 miles of streets and highways in Minnesota including 12,000 miles of state highways.
