Astoria Oregon Rust: Snow Plows

First of all there were few pick-up trucks in the suburbs of New Jersey. It was only the hearty, self-reliant, good-ol-boy types that owned them. The hard core had 4 wheel drive trucks and most of them had snow plows. These guys would always keep an eye to the sky hoping for a hint of snow. As soon as four inches hit the ground they brew up a thermos of coffee and hit the road.

Cliff worked for a guy, years ago, who did construction as his main occupation but in winter had contracts with several businesses to remove snow. He'd send Cliff out with a tractor to do the job. Cliff HATED it, and usually if you put him on a tractor, he's happy. But with all that looking back behind him, he'd get a stiff neck. Of course, working on a tractor in winter was pretty cold, too.

I would definitely rather plow with a truck rather than a tractor. You can see what you're doing better in a tractor, but it's much warmer in a truck. Leaving that tractor biz to the younger guys. If you like doing that kind of stuff, you'd be better off buying a bulldozer and working during the summer. Now that's fun!

Again, I am looking to head off any potential warranty issues due to the plow - overheating, engine, trans, etc. I figure most engine or trans issues would be resolved by the snowplow prep package fan clutch. FYI, I drove my truck in 100 + degree heat on the highway with speeds up to 70 mph and didn't budge the temp gauge. I did hear the fan clutch and my A/C stopped cooling at speeds above 60 so I think the TSB - relocation of the automatic temperature sensor is needed. Also, I only plow a few driveways and the fire department so this may never become an issue. Just trying to be proactive.
