If you go to Target, Home Depot or any of the other big chains that sell the Toro Electric Shovel you will probably find the same thing that I did...that it is SOLD OUT. Why? Because this is one of the most helpful tools to have ever been placed on the market. It works fairly well on small... -

So this huge Nor'easter is supposed to be gone tomorrow and I was gonna go out to shovel driveways. These driveways are two car widths wide, and about 25 yards long. The snow is about 2-3 inches of heavy slush, and 8 inches of wet snow on top.
I live in Colorado and last November we got 28". A kid next door asked $20 bucks for my driveway and walks. Took him about 45 minutes to do the job. I paid him an extra $10 for doing such a good job on it.
My friend and I are going to shovel snow but we're not sure what to charge. We're gonna do sidewalk and driveway and I think there is going to be about 3-4 inches by Saturday morning.
What is your time worth to you? What is your work worth to the people whose snow you have moved? Split the difference.
I am going to be shoveling snow all winter (for me and others) and I have had it with plastic shovels that break and flimsy piece of junk shovels that flex and bend that make it near impossible to do a proper job. So, what is a good quality...
Do yourself a big favor and get a back saver snow shovel. It is bent in the middle. If at all possible buy one from Sears. They are alittle expensive but they offer a lifetime warranty. If it breaks return it for a new one. Shovel snow in layers.

Valley Residents Already Prepared for Winter
Many in the Valley are getting a jump on winter. Last year 14 Virginians died as a result of the cold weather and storms. According to Gov. Bob McDonnell, the damage cost tax-payers more than $46 million. As a result, McDonnell has officially declared this week to be Winter Preparedness Week.
McDonnell says the loss of life and property during the winter months can be greatly reduced if Virginians take appropriate measures before, during and after experiencing severe winter weather.
According to Lowe's manager Travis Brooks, it wasn't just residents who were caught off guard last year.
"A lot of people last year would come to get snow shovels, and we'd be out," Brooks recalls.
It was difficult to find a shovel, icemelt or snow blowers in any store. Many were out of stock nearly as soon as the items hit the shelves.
"I think with the years of not having snow, people kind of got complaisant about it, and after last year, all that snow that we had, it just kind of scared everybody," Brooks says.
Brooks says it's not uncommon for customers to stock up on winter supplies, but this year it started earlier than ever.
"Probably the beginning of September, people were buying snow throwers and shovels, believe it or not," Brooks says.
Because of that, many customers didn't need to purchase a shovel after Saturday night's flurries, they did that months ago.
Brooks says many customers rely heavily on predictions from the Farmer's Almanac.
"Its calling for more snow than we got last year. So, I think it has put a little bit of scare in people, and they want to make sure they get everything," Brooks says.
The same goes for the store. Lowe's stocked up early on shovels and deicer, and the only thing customers are buying faster than they can order is snow blowers.
"As soon as they come in, they're out the door pretty much," Brooks says.
Though McDonnell encouraged Virginians to prepare for winter this week, it seems many in the Valley didn't need to be told. They're already prepared for the next big storm.
