Dreary winter could be worse The Star-Ledger NJ.com
04.03.10
According to my garden journals, I’ve had crocuses and puny spring irises blooming on this companion in years past. Picture — real, remain, little flowers cheerily blooming at my doorstep.
This year, I’m scarcely not sure when I’ll see unveil ground again. Actually, I’m not so dependable I remember what the yard looks like without its cloak of snow. Or that I can clearly picture the backyard as a big, leafy space.
I know they say we’re context records with these frequent snowstorms, but this hasn’t been the worst winter in respect. I distinctly remember that in the winter of 1996-97, we done had weekly “snow events” capped by one tremendous blizzard. The Big One dropped so much snow I needed to let out a backhoe operator to self-ruling my driveway and parking enclosure. (Trust me, it ain’t penny-pinching.)
This season, I’m seeing my buddy-buddy snow plow guy on a regular infrastructure, “snow plow” as in the pickup-ends kind. I’ve stopped saying, “We can’t go on gathering like this.” Last Saturday, it was another 8 or 9 inches. More snow was predicted for today. Sometimes it seems it will never end.

How to stop snow from sticking to the shovel?
Dec 27, 2008 by Jorm | Posted in Garden & Landscape
Does anyone be acquainted with a trick to prevent snow from sticking to the snow shovel? I tried oil, that didn't travail.
I use car wax on it. That would possibly be the longest lasting treatment of all & commonly does last me all winter (and I live in key MN so the snow season is december thru the end of march).

I don't have knowledge of if this will help with snow or not. But you might try vegetable oil: At least one master gardener recommends that to keep your tools from rusting.
Friendly luck!

Can i hook up an electric snow shovel to a car battery?
Feb 14, 2007 by Luke | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The power shovel is like a weedwhacker largeness, and is annoying dragging around a cord. any way i could by fair means up the cord from it to a battery source i could mount on the snow shovel linked below?
The amount of power to run a snow shovel is current to be too much for a typical battery. Normal batteries won't last but only a few minutes. Starting your car and using the car battery is an way out, but you will need a DC to AC inverter which would be expensive for the wattage of a representative snow blower. That option requires a rope as well and would defeat the purpose. There won't be a small enough battery elbow to mount on the snow shovel to do the work that you need. Pitiable, I think you'll have to live with the cord.
Answer Man | Feb 16, 2007
yes you have need of an inverter to turn the DC into AC You need a big one and it will tariff you more than a few dollars. Check the wattage ratings on both the shovel and inverter. In besides theis will put quite a bit on electrical "consignment" on the battery. You'll probably requirement to keep the car idled

NO
dtwladyhawk | Feb 14, 2007
It's practicable yes. BUT, between the weight you would be adding to the unit, with the battery and the inverter, as well as the set someone back...you will be better off dealing with the cord.

With the impending onslaught of winter weather, I'd like to ask what your favorite snow shovel is.?

Do the curved handled shafts in the end make it easier to shovel snow (and save your back)? Do you espouse plastic over aluminum? I'm purchasing a big quantity for my company and although I've used many of the aforementioned shovels, I'm snooping to see what brands or types are favored by the masses.
I have a sizeable STEEL pusher shovel, a smaller bogus pusher shovel, A plastic standard fixed and a steel standard flat.
I use the larger pusher for be uncovered fluffy snow on the driveway, the smaller manageable pusher for slushy snow on the driveway. The soft flat one for lifting and carrying profound snow, and the steel flat one for scraping steadfastly packed snow and ice. The palstic ones get into out in a couple of years, but are great because they are not insupportable. Aluminum ones are light, but submit easily. That's why I like the steel ones.

I have a considerable STEEL pusher shovel, a smaller supple pusher shovel, A plastic standard exactly and a steel standard flat.
I use the larger pusher for put on lighten fluffy snow on the driveway, the smaller responsive pusher for slushy snow on the driveway. The ersatz flat one for lifting and carrying unfathomable snow, and the steel flat one for scraping hard jam-packed snow and ice. The palstic ones wear out in a connect of years, but are great because they are not heavy. Aluminum ones are entertaining, but bend easily. That's why I like the blade ones.

How ever you do it, shovel it away from the domicile or your basement will leak. If the drive runs down hill, permit gravity to help you. Don't over extend yourself or at the very least you will get painful muscles, and at the very most you will have a heart attack. Dim-witted and steady as she goes.
