It swept under the doors, through the windows, down the chimney saturating the walls as it came: turning rugs sodden as it crept insidiously across the parquet, leaving the house besotted of wet wool, wet cement, wet dogs. The power disappeared three days ago. The phone was off, then on, then off and is now, after pleading with the lineman, back on for the moment being. The fridge has totally defrosted, is emptied of spoiled victuals, cleaned, polished, waiting to hum back to survival.
The freezer: stuffed to the gunnels with garden initiate et al is firmly shut. Not to be opened unless it begins to thaw in which specimen the entire mountainside community will lift a bonanza. The heaviest rains for at least 80 years and I still have a roof over my control, still have a home, am still ‘here’. I’m convenient. Extremely lucky. The landslide in the orchard can be cleared, a pick axe and shovel job. The ‘strikingly’ earth will encounter in handy and the cascade of boulders should be enough to put up a new terrace-retaining be ruined. The deluge, at its height, was both vicious and, I openly admit, macabre. The main road pre-eminent to Azad Kashmir rings around this sheer mountainside way down below my eyrie. It is with catlike tread devoid of traffic. The habitual distant sound of speeding engines, of horns, replaced by the roaring dash of a rain fed waterfall: this is some space away, knifing through thick forest on a aloof ridge where the new scar of a landslide had etched a cloudy red path through the green of the trees, if possible cutting a link route in its flight. Miles away, factual down at the bottom of the valley is the Jhelum River marking the borderline between this Punjabi outpost and Azad Kashmir. From here I see a pinched stretch of narrow ribbon alternating between ashen-blue and silver depending on the reflection and the time of day. Right now, though, I see a disgraceful heaving turbulence of rampaging brown laced with deathly white caps. The river is in outrageous flood and has obviously shatter its banks. I wonder at the devastation both in its wake and untruthfulness ahead, particularly when it meets up with ‘civilisation’. Muzzafarabad, spate the shoulder of the mountain and thus out of unreal, must be devastated.

Gas Power Snow Shovel?
Dec 04, 2007 by Dawn F | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
My neighbour has this regular little power snow shovel (not quite a snow blower). It's within arm's reach-held, like a weed wacker - in actuality sounds like one too. I can find electric ones, but don't wish for a cord. It's quite powerful. Any ideas what it might be?

Can i hook up an electric snow shovel to a car battery?
Feb 14, 2007 by Luke | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The power shovel is like a weedwhacker immensity, and is annoying dragging around a cord. any way i could grab up the cord from it to a battery source i could mount on the snow shovel linked below?
The amount of power to run a snow shovel is present to be too much for a typical battery. Normal batteries won't last but only a few minutes. Starting your car and using the car battery is an recourse, but you will need a DC to AC inverter which would be expensive for the wattage of a standard snow blower. That option requires a line as well and would defeat the purpose. There won't be a small enough battery nearby to mount on the snow shovel to do the work that you need. See sorrowful, I think you'll have to live with the cord.
Answer Man | Feb 16, 2007
yes you want an inverter to turn the DC into AC You need a big one and it will set someone back you more than a few dollars. Check the wattage ratings on both the shovel and inverter. In putting together theis will put quite a bit on electrical "care" on the battery. You'll probably stress to keep the car idled

NO
dtwladyhawk | Feb 14, 2007
It's doable yes. BUT, between the weight you would be adding to the unit, with the battery and the inverter, as well as the set someone back...you will be better off dealing with the cord.

Dec 07, 2008 by Relic | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Hunk of refuse really, trying to fix it for Dad.
Model 60-3989-6, cheesy inexperienced wheels,6.5 amp motor. 12.5 extent.
Figure corrosion in middle of manoeuvre causes short through main power wire to switch Switch in handle.Trips circle breaker instantly.
Anybody else affair this?
If the cope with is plastic it probably isn't the cause of the breaker blowing. When you promotion it in does the the breaker trip, or do you have to press the start button? If it is the second one, then you appetite to make sure that the paddles turning easily. From there you should check for a bare wire or connecting that is touching another bare wire or metal part. There is undoubtedly a dead short if it trips instantly. Only just take it apart and try find out where. Electric tape, to protect against it up, might be your friend.

Toro 7.5-Amp Electric Power Shovel Snowthrower?
Nov 26, 2008 by illusion_tb | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
My mom, my sister and I are pensive about getting this snow thrower for my dad for Christmas. The type says that it can throw snow as far as 20 feet. I was wondering if that mileage is adjustable. We're afraid that it's too far and the snow might end up in our neighbor's driveway (we charged in a condo). If it is not adjustable, do you intend 20 feet is an OK distant? Thanks
This will be the superlative gift you will give. Remember to get a 100 foot line that is rated for the most amps. The longer the string the higher the voltage drop. Also some cords are made to be Facile in cold weather. The shroud can be adjusted to baffle the snow either to the left or right or at an angle . If it is prolix you might have to start on the side opposite the wind. Otherwise start in the center of the press and work to the outside.

wast of capital unless its 2-3" of lightweight powder. be advised
Mike S | Nov 26, 2008
I have one. You can adapt to the throw by the angle you hold it at. 20 feet is upon fluffy snow.
But it's only good to about 6" of snow. If it gets much deeper than that you have to line in layers, cleaning a few feet down 6", then cleaning another 6" groove, etc. So, depending on the normal snowfall where you existent it may be just the thing, or it may be a toy. (And if your pater doesn't need exercise, it's not for him. It's not a promenade-behind snow blower, you end up lifting it quite a bit, and it's not as sprightly as a plain old shovel.)

Preparing for a snow storm
One of the reasons we unconditional to live in northern Idaho is that there are so few imminent disasters that we have to worry about preparing for. Part of prepping is to keep away from as many disasters as possible to begin with. However, we do still have to distribute with the possibility of forest fires and the inevitability of snow storms, and we are straight away approaching snow season. I don't call it winter, I call it snow age because every year we deal with snow storms and every year we have to dig tunnels to get to our vehicles. I don't skilled in what the record snow accumulation was in our area but our neighbors have told us that one year the unmitigated depth at one point was 8 feet! Take it walls of snow 2 feet or more above your head! This could most plainly turn into a disaster if you are not prepared.
Here are a few things we do and are doing to be predisposed Our home has a metal roof, this allows the snow to slide off more unquestionably. This year we will be purchasing a snow rake with a protracted handle so I don't have to risk climbing up to the roof to depart the snow off and possibly sliding off with it. If you rake the snow off, be guaranteed to stand back far enough that the snow doesn't land on you. There is much more ballast there than you might think and you could be severely injured or buried and killed if a great amount of snow falls on you. (If your roof has been constructed to grapple with an enormous snow load removing the snow may not be a big contract as long as there isn't danger of people walking under a part of the roof where snow can assail, the snow can actually act as insulation retaining more stir inside your home. I don't want to stake our roof being damaged so I try to remove as much as thinkable)We keep a heavy duty high grade snow shovel inside our mudroom. You don't want to fiddle about with a cheap one. If it breaks and you get snowed in your retreat you may find yourself using kitchen utensils to dig yourself out.Use advice when shoveling snow. When using a snow...
