this product is a cool idea...a leaf blower that turns vacuum w/the flip of a switch. Problem is, it doesn't do it nearly as well as it could or should. First, the impeller is plastic. One errant rock or hard piece of bark sucked up in the vacuum, and expect your blades to chip. Mine chipped... -

Burglar gets probation, restitution to victims
A 19-year-old East Chicago man was placed on probation for 18 months for theft and ordered to pay $1,500 to two people whose garages he burglarized.
Carl William Hornyak admitted he broke into two garages on Nov. 9 in the 5600 block of Northcote Avenue in East Chicago. He stole a leaf blower, mountain bike, snow blower and tools from one garage owner and several tools from the second garage.
Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez accepted the plea agreement, which required Hornyak to pay half of the restitution at sentencing and half while he’s on probation.
Two burglary charges punishable by a sentence of two to eight years were dismissed. If Hornyak successfully completes probation he can ask the judge to reduce his felony conviction to a misdemeanor.

As for an unseemly matter now playing out in baseball, new details suggest that the White Sox organization deserves plaudits for institutional candor, with one employee exhibiting a moral courage we would all like to think we could muster.
“When I heard, I realized I had no discretion,” Jerry Reinsdorf, the White Sox owner, told me last week.
Speaking from Arizona, Mr. Reinsdorf referred to a startling conversation with a previously undisclosed Sox whistle-blower. The employee’s revelations to Mr. Reinsdorf prompted investigations leading to dismissals of Yankees and Red Sox employees and the federal indictments in November in an alleged kickback scheme involving a former White Sox executive and two former Sox scouts in Latin America.
At the center of the mess is the alleged financial exploitation of young Latin baseball wannabes, in particular those in the Dominican Republic.
For years, the Dominican Republic has bred great players and suspect practices from the mix of the nation’s poverty and the potential riches of making it to the major league.
Those practices mostly involve lies about prospects’ ages, use of performance-enhancing drugs and the ambiguous role of buscones, street agents who help develop talented players, take them to team scouts and keep a percentage of any signing bonus.
The more recent twist involves employees, even top officials, of major league teams taking kickbacks from signing bonuses and contract buyouts to secure young players.
The whistle-blower is Rafael Santana, 52, a Sox scout in the Dominican Republic and a former shortstop who was on the Mets’ 1986 championship team.
Mr. Santana, who could not be reached, told Mr. Reinsdorf he was disturbed when he heard that David Wilder, who was then senior director of player personnel for the White Sox, forced young Dominicans to kick back portions of their signing bonuses.
The potential for enriching oneself is ample. According to an ESPN investigation, by 2008 major league teams were paying a combined $35 million in signing bonuses to Dominicans, with the average having soared to over $100,000.
