Season needs help getting on track

Track and Field season is half over and the Nikiski athletes are still unable to use the multi-million dollar facility there. Use it, heck we can't even see it. I know it was a bad year for snow, but I begged the KPB Maintenance Department to come up with a solution last year. Nope. Twelve months later and still the same problem. The SoHi and Skyview tracks are cleared of snow by the city of Soldotna. The Kenai track gets cleared by the city of Kenai. The Nikiski track evidently is supposed to be cleared by Mother Nature.

Well since M.N. wasn't so helpful last year, I went down to our track and hand-shoveled a path all the way around the track, one shovel width wide, so the sun could get to the dark surface and begin the melting process. I worked down there every day for 2 weeks. The Borough Meet was scheduled for May 5th. On the afternoon of May 4th when the team came down to utilize the track, I was able to proudly give them lane 7 and 8 in front of the bleachers. The entire track was clear, finally, and just in time. We were able to have Boroughs and a week later Regions. The Nikiski athletes repeatedly thanked me for all my hard work (about 40 hours). If you ask the athletes from the other schools, they will tell you they love the Nikiski track. It is arguably the best High School track in the Borough.

When and How to Switch Out Snow Blower Paddles « Discount Online Parts

When to Replace Your Snow Blower Paddles

One of the first indicators that you might need to replace your snow blower paddles is that the machine isn’t throwing snow as far as it should. If your snow blower isn’t getting the distance it used to, it’s possible the paddles could be worn down and need replacing.

First, shut off the engine and take out the key. Always be safe when working with your outdoor power equipment . Then try to slip your finger between the paddle and the housing of the snow blower. If you can get your finger in the gap, then the paddles are too worn down to do much good.

You should actually be doing this test a couple times a season to monitor how efficiently your snow blower is working.

Replacing the Paddles

Replacing snow blower paddles is a simple task. They’re generally mounted to the auger with screws. Simply pull the screws out and pull the old paddles out.

Now get the snow blower paddle set you purchased for replacement and mount the new paddles on using the same mounting screws.

That’s it. You’re now ready to sling snow like your snow blower is brand new.

Preventative Maintenance Over Crisis Management

Check your snow blower paddles often. Regular replacement will not only keep your snow blower removing snow more efficiently, but it reduces the workload on your machine which will help it last for many more seasons to come.
