CHARLES TWP. — Since it was started in 1979, the Kane County Special Weapons and Tactics team has been called upon to resolve several barricaded gunman/hostage situations, search for escaped prisoners who were being held on murder and other violent felony charges, and provide security protection for visiting government officials.

This week, 31 members of the Kane County SWAT team were custom-fitted for earpieces that are being donated by Professional Hearing & Audiology Clinics, a company based in Rockford with 24 locations in Illinois (including in Elgin), Indiana and Wisconsin.
“We’re doing this in celebration of our 60th anniversary,” said Brian Dencker, director of practice development at the company. “This is our chance to give back to the community. To date, we have donated 150 earpieces to law enforcement officers. Our goal is to provide 600 officers with the earpieces.”
