NOT as advertised, but at least they were a good fit
The number one problem I have is that the picture is clearly V-bar style -- i.e., the ice biters are welded on to the chain links -- but what I received was plain chain with no v-bar.These made-in-China chains fit pretty well, but since they weren't as advertised, I couldn't try them out. (In...

I just picked up a riding lawn mower with a PTO on the front. What I need to know is if there are any snow blower attachments out there for it. Bear with me cuz I'm a little green at this. The mfg website doesn't sell one to go with it.
if the manufacturer doesn't sell one for it you would have to retrofit one yourself.

You do adjust the valves on small engines. Where did you get the idea that you don't? On the smaller flat head briggs engines the adjustment was done by shortening the length of the valve stem.

Troy council member questions tractor purchase
TROY - Troy has a tractor.
At the last council meeting, borough council bought the tractor for $13,200 from Columbia Cross Roads Equipment. One council member questioned the purchase.
Borough manager Dan Close announced that the borough received quotes for the water department to purchase a compact tractor.
"All the department's small lawn tractors are no longer operational," he said. "They've been around for a long time. The unit that we are looking at would give us a much broader range due to the hydraulics and the ability to purchase a wide range of attachments over time."
Close said the Columbia Cross Roads Equipment quote was the low one.
He added, "Cross Roads Equipment has been kind enough to let us have that in our possession until the vote at no charge to see that the guys are happy with it, and everybody seems to feel that it's a good unit and it's going to serve the purposes that we have intended it to."
The motion to buy the tractor was made by council member Mike Davison and seconded by council member Bob Ives.
Buying and Installing a John Deere Snow Blade
John Deere is a company name, which is commonly associated with quality and reliability in the products that they produce. John Deere produces high powered lawn tractors, which can be used for commercial places as well as for residential homes. This company is actually one of the most supported producers of snow blowers and lawn mowers. Therefore, if you have acquired a lawn tractor from them, then most likely you are very satisfied with what you got. With their lawn mowers, you can literally take care of your lawn in just a matter of minutes. Though you are already satisfied with your lawn tractor, you can still further its functionalities by providing it with a John Deere snow blade.
A snow blade is actually one of the optional extras that John Deere provides to its customers. With a snow blade, which is usually 46 inches in length, you will be able to move snow and other materials in the ground more conveniently. Aside from that, you actually no longer have to buy a snow blower, if you already equipped your lawn tractor with the snow blade. Many people are quite amazed when they first see their lawn tractors taking care of snow aside from grass.
Buying a John Deere snow blade for your tractor is actually not a very challenging task, since a lot of retailers and dealers offer them. You can actually scour the local stores near your place, or look for them online. It is actually more affordable if you buy the snow blade on the Internet. However, you will need to install the blade yourself if you go this route. If you are comfortable in installing the blade to your lawn tractor, then there should be no problem in acquiring the blade online. All you need to do is search for the online stores that offer them, compare their prices, check out customer testimonials, place the order, and wait for it in a few days.
If there is no manual included with it, you can always contact the online store if they can provide you a soft copy of it. If not, you can simply search for the information online. There is actually high probability that someone has already posted a blog about installing it.

I have a 1994 Montgomery Wards Signature 2000 Elite (MTD with 18HP Briggs & Stratton). I am getting ready to purchase a snow blower attachment Craftsman 842.24072. Will this mount up to my lawn tractor? I am suppose to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. I would hate to blow $100 for something that wont work. I can do some light fab work (cnc cut a plate or bracket). I need to know if I can get the belt to match up. I have a 1994 Montgomery Wards Signature 2000 Elite (MTD with 18HP Briggs & Stratton). I would hate to blow $100 for something that wont work. I can do some light fab work (cnc cut a plate or bracket). I need to know if I can get the belt to match up. I had a similar experience last year. I bought a snowblower that was designed for a tractor with a belt drive (off a pulley not a drive shaft) and my MTD 999 is a shaft drive. I don't have any welding experience so I decided I would try to adapt the bracket from my mower deck to fit the snowblower with mixed results. You can see in the first picture that the belt pulley sticks out below the frame rails. (not good) Also, the angle of the pulley didn't "quite" line up with the belt, so it came off a lot. Also, note the severe angle of the driveshaft. I did get through most of the snow season with this setup. Eventually, I hit something solid with the pulley sticking out the bottom and it bent the plate I made to mount the unit to the snowblower. (third picture) The last picture shows the bracket I had made at a fab shop. Note that it mounts so that the pulley is ABOVE the frame rails and the belt AND driveshaft will line up better.(Although I will have to shorten the drive shaft) I went to mount it and found that I really should have delivered the tractor with the blower when I took it to the fab shop. It fits perfectly, and...
