    • More Imperial Gangsters charged

    Federal prosecutors have filed more charges against members of the Imperial Gangsters street gang in East Chicago, including several new murder and attempted murder counts.

    According to the second superseding indictment, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Hammond, three East Chicago residents — Robert “Jackson” Lockhart, 19; Armando “Money” Jose Velasquez, 25; and Anthony “Tall Folks” Baldazo, 24 — have all been added in the racketeering case.

    The case, which now stands at 15 defendants, charges 14 of them with conspiracy to racketeer and adds a new count against the same 14 of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana. The last defendant, Alejandro Briseno, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

    The indictment had previously attributed nine killings to the racketeering conspiracy and now adds one more, that of Wayne McNair, a bystander who was killed when Velasquez was shooting at people he thought were rival gang members on June 13, 2004.

The doll came with accessories handmade and donated by Wade Beamer, Mary Brook, Diane Stallings, and Patch’s Doll Designs.

    The SEPL Foundation made over $1200 on this year’s raffles as well as over $300 selling breads and jams at the extravaganza. Everyone who donated and purchased tickets made this year yet another success! THANK YOU for your support of the library!
