My new Ariens 520E clears the icy snow at the end of the driveway, but is slow and very difficult to maneuver. I'm considering replacing it. Toro's website says that their single-stage, somewhat smaller 421Q should work, but the model is too new for there to be any reviews online.
Advice would be greatly appreciated.
i had one of these & it rane good i loved it & i still have it

Toro electric snowblower - any reviews?
Jan 25, 2008 by Tod G | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
What's a good electric snow blower and where can I find reviews ?
Toro of course. They make the most popular snow blowers and my friend's got the electric. It totally light weight and kicks butt. He has the Toro 1800. Here's some pretty good reviews and info:

Which snowblower should i go with?
Oct 15, 2007 by Frank M | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
i live in upstate NY and need to purchase a snowblower. My driveway is around 50ft long and 25ft wide. I have been reviewing a bunch of them but can't find a clearcut choice. I'm looking at models with around 9-10hp and 28'' cut (craftsman 88790, troy bilt 9.5hp, cub cadet 10hp), that cost around $1000. Any suggestions???
I also live in upstate NY (Troy) and my driveway is almost the same size as yours.I bought my snowblower at walmart approx 5 yrs. ago for $700, its a MTD 8hp with a 28 in. cut and its more than I need.I can throw the snow in the neighbors yard if I want to. The only thing I can suggest to do, is take good care of it such as store it inside when not using and regular maintenance oil - plug and I empty the old gas out after each year. When doing so I add a treatment called stabil to the gas so I dont have any problems with the carb.Good Luck

Look for a good warranty, and removable gas tank. Look closely for easy access to spark plugs, etc. -- You may need to replace them year after year and it is easy to do yourself.
Also, look at good quality non-metal parts -- you don't want rust, and you need to be able to move the blower easily to redirect the blowing snow when you turn.

I had good luck with craftsman. The last one had the track instead of wheels.
Look for ease of operation and maintenance, and electric start.

My driveway is a bit larger and I live in southern NH. I have a Toro Power Max 828 LXE, rated #1 by Consumer Reports, 8hp, 28" cut. I was worried that it wouldn't have the power of a 9-10 hp, but it had more than enough power for the three northeasters that I had to cut through. It has a Tecumseh engine with electric start, and a "Quick Stick" chute control, which operates like a joystick (very handy when the wind shifts quickly). It also has a light for nighttime use.
