I bought a used snow blower and the cover for the carburetor is missing and you can see it move when you?

pull the choke...the guy who sold it to me said it has always been that way and it runs better that way because it is easier to spray the cleaner in there? Any ideas or solutions?
The previous owner said it came like that and it runs best that way and then a lawnmower repair shop said all snowblowers come that way...
What is missing is the air filter. It keeps dirt and debris out of the carburetor and engine. It is most important for dusty conditions but you should have one. You can get the make and model number off of the engine and go to "outdoordistributors.com" and look up the part. The model numbers for the engine are either on a tag or stamped into the metal cowling on the engine. Being on a snow blower, I wouldn't be afraid to run it without the filter but like I said, it should have one.

I have a gas power drill that you turn the air cleaner to choke it. Get the name, make , and model number and search the Internet. It is usually easy. Just put the info. into the search bar on yahoo. Look for the owners manual in PDF. and download. I have the manuals for all of my equipment on my computer.

What do I do with my snow blower?
Feb 12, 2007 by paul y | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have had it for two years and not used yet as we have not had any snow..i don't put gas/oil in so do I just let the thing covered up?
I would just leave it be. From your description of it, it seems like it is not causing you any problems--I say, live and let live--or it this case, live and leave it be. It is not bothering you, so I would not bother it. Good luck!

Um....you could lend it to me! We have a snow storm coming in! 6 to 10 inches by tomorrow morning! Then a couple more later on that night! Sure could use it!

Assuming it's new, there's probably still some assembly lube in it and on the moving parts. It wouldn't hurt to "turn it over " occasionally with the rope starter or starter, but with the spark plug disconnected. This will help keep the lube on the cylinder walls so the motor won't want to seize - up. I prefer to keep my eqpmt. filled with new oil and a full fuel tank containing gas stabilizer.

can u use a snow blower with out an air filter. My new blower has no air filter and manufacturer said it's OK?

I bought this snow blower form Walmart. I't's a Murana. I called the manufacturer and they said even though it has a housing for air filter it does not come with one and that you don't need it because in winter when you use the blower there is no dust. They said it's covered under warranty and I can use it without the airfilter
I would be worried about sucking snow into the motor.
Justin K | Feb 26, 2009
Unless you get that in writing, I wouldn't do it! There are always impurities in the air, even in winter, and you sure don't want snow/water sucked in there either!
Unless, of course, it's an electric snow blower, in which case it wouldn't need a filter.
Hope this helps!

Well I have to agree with the manufacturer on this. I would say use it.
If it goes bad because of bad rings an such then go back to them and ask about them warranty. They have to make the Warranty good.
At least for the time it says on the Warranty.
Use the sucker!

Snow Blower problem...help!?
Dec 17, 2007 by TonyM | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I cant get my snow blower to run.? I took the cover off, and got some starting fluid in it and thatwill start it. But it will not stay running, It is an Ariens single stage(sp?) and only about 3 years old. It doesn't seem to be getting gas, I took the line off and drained some into a bucket so i know it isnt frozen? What could it be??? Any Ideas?
Thats the thing, I put gas in it. The gas is only about 3 months old....Do you think that this is still to old?
If you had this unit sitting for a while there is a good chance that the old gas could be causing your issue. What happens to old gas if it sits is it turns into varnish, once this happens the only way to correct the problem is remove the carburetor float body and flush the internal parts with a carburetor cleaning or gunk remover made for just this purpose. I am certain once you do this your machine will run like new. best way to winterize gas engines is to remove all of the gas by either draining the gas tank or running it dry prior to long term storage. Don't feel bad you and many other people just gas and go and never think about the long term effects when not in use annually. Good luck if this don't help take it to a reputable repair shop in your area.

Float in carb stuck or needle valve. If it has an in-line filter at the carb, it could also be plugged.
After reading the answer provided by "hurrican..., I have to agree, to a point. If the gas was left un-treated in the tank or carb for an extended period, then the build up of varnish is a great possibility, although, I have a blower some 16 years old and never had I drained the tank during the off season, yet I have not had any problem.
Reason being, at the end of the season, I mix the proper mix of a product called "stabil" in the gas, which prevents the fuel from separating. Also, I add some "gum-out" to the mix, in the start of the season, that will clean out any residue left over from the off season in the carb.
For the present, try spraying some of the gum out directly into the fuel supply of the carb, that might clean the needle valve without taking it apart.
